Winter hats

I realized that I really enjoy knitting hats. They are quick and satisfying projects and a good way to use up partial skeins of yarn. And just like socks, it is difficult to stop making them.

Hand-knitted hats

I had some leftover DROPS Sky, a lovely lightweight yarn containing baby alpaca, merino wool and polyamide, in lavender color. I used it to make the GENEie cable hat, which was designed by Rebecca Roush Brown. I love the subtle DNA helices on this hat and, even though I am not a hat person, I think I will keep it for myself. It is so light that I can't even feel it on my head.

This slouchy beanie hat with the pompom was made from DROPS Fabel, a sock wool, in the color salt and pepper. I didn't use a pattern for this. I just made it up as I went along. I combined small leftover skeins for this hat and had fun matching the stripes.

I knitted another slouchy beanie with a pompom, but this time with a cable pattern. I used Patons Classic Roving wool yarn in the color aran. I saw a hat like this one on someone last year and liked it so much that I had to recreate it. It feels very warm.

This beret was made from black DROPS Alpaca Boucle, one of my favorite yarns. I had just enough for this hat, which I think turned out very cute. Again, I made up the pattern as I went along.

Here is another beanie with a pompom. I am not sure what this yarn is, as I lost its label, but it feels like some sort of a wool blend. I chose the seersucker stitch with its diamond-like texture to make this hat a little more masculine for my husband.

For the next hat I used DROPS Karisma, a superwash-treated wool, in light grey to make the DROPS pattern Extra 0-96. I loved this hat on the model but do not like how it turned out. I think this yarn is too stiff for this design, even with a looser gauge. I may take it apart.

I knitted the Weekend Get Away hat by DROPS Design a while ago but decided to partially unravel it and make it a little smaller. For this project I used Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Worsted Yarn, which is a Peruvian Highland wool, in the color coal. I love the design of this hat with its Celtic cables and large brim. It is perfect for cold rainy and snowy days.
