Funnel Neck Sweatshirt Pattern

Materials
DROPS Air, color Ruby Red, 7 skeins
US 6 and US 8 32” circular knitting needles
Stitch markers
Stitch holders or scrap yarn

Gauge
4.5 stitches=1” in stockinette stitch on US 8 knitting needles

Size (after blocking)
body width: 19.5”
body length from bottom edge to armholes: 15”
armhole depth: 8”
sleeve length to armhole:16”
sleeve width at bottom edge: 3.5”
sleeve width at upper arm: 6.75”
neck width: 10”

Body
Cast on 180 stitches with smaller knitting needles, join round, and place marker at the beginning of the round. Knit 1 round. Next round *K2, P1, repeat* to end of round. Continue K2P1 ribbing until piece measures 2” from cast on edge. Switch to larger needles, *K83, P1, K2, P1, K2, P1*, and repeat * to end of round. Repeat last round until piece measures 3”. Mark bottom corners of the pouch by placing removable stitch markers on the 96th and 168th stitches of the body counted from the beginning of the round. Repeat * 44 more times.

Pouch: Pick up 73 stitches for bottom of pouch between pouch markers by inserting the needle into the middle of the stitches on the body and knitting the picked up loops. These stitches for the pouch will be knitted flat.
Row 1 (wrong side): P1, K1, P2, K1, P2, K1, purl to last 8 stitches, K1, P2, K1, P2, K1, P1.
Row 2 (right side): K1, P1, K2, P1, K2, P1, knit to last 8 stitches, P1, K2, P1, K2, P1, K1.
Row 3 (wrong side): same as Row 1.
Row 4 (right side): K1, P1, K2, P1, K2, P1, ssk, knit to last 10 stitches, k2tog, P1, K2, P1, K2, P1, K1.
Repeat Rows 3 and 4 20 more times until 31 stitches remain on the needle. Cut yarn.

Return to body of the sweater and continue as before through the first 116 stitches. Then knit the following 31 stitches together with the pouch stitches. Continue body until piece measures 15“ from cast on edge. Place the 7 P1, K2, P1, K2, P1 stitches on the sides of the sweater onto stitch holders. 166 stitches remain on the needle.

Sleeves (make 2)
Cast on 39 stitches with the smaller knitting needles, join round, and place marker at the beginning of the round. Knit 1 round. Next round *K2, P1, repeat* to end of round. Continue K2P1 ribbing until piece measures 3” from cast on edge. Switch to larger needles. K32, place marker, P1, K2, P1, K2, P1. Increase 2 stitches by M1L, knit to next marker M1R, slip marker, P1, K2, P1, K2, P1 (increase round). Knit to next marker, P1, K2, P1, K2, P1 (regular round). Continue regular rounds, while increasing every 1” 11 more times until there are 63 stitches and sleeve measures 16” from cast on edge. Place the 7 P1, K2, P1, K2, P1 stitches on a stitch holder. 56 stitches remain on the needle.

Yoke
Add body and sleeve stitches onto the same larger knitting needle by orienting sleeves, so that the 7 underarm stitches on the stitch holders are parallel to each other. There are 278 total stitches. Place a marker between each body and sleeve junction. *P1, K2, P1, knit to 4 stitches before next marker, P1, K2, P1, slip marker, K2, P1, knit to 3 stitches before next marker, P1, K2, slip marker, repeat from * to end of round. Repeat this round 3 more times. Next round (decrease round) *P1, K2, P1, ssk, knit to 6 stitches before next marker, k2tog, P1, K2, P1, slip marker, K2, P1, ssk, knit to 5 stitches before next marker, k2tog, P1, K2, slip marker, repeat from * to end of round. Repeat the last 2 rounds 18 more times until 126 stitches remain. Cut yarn.

Neck shaping: Place front center 13 stitches onto a stitch holder. Attach yarn to the right of these 13 stitches and purl P and knit K stitches on the wrong side of the neck. Next row (right side and on the opposite side of the stitch holder) start neck shaping by binding off the first 3 stitches and continue raglan shaping and pattern as before. Next row (wrong side) bind off 3 stitches and purl P and knit K stitches. Next, bind off 2 stitches on the right and then on the wrong side, while continuing raglan shaping as previously. Then bind off 1 stitch like this on the right and then on the wrong side, and repeat 1 more time. A total of 7 stitches are bound off on each side of the stitch holder. There should be a total of 24 raglan decreases and 59 stitches left on the needle. Cut yarn.

Funnel neck
Attach yarn to the beginning of the round (right back). P1, K2, P1, K2, P1, K27, P1, K2, P1, K2, P1, K2, P1, K2, P1, K2, P1, pick up 11 stitches along front left neck, K13 from stitch holder, pick up 11 stitches along front right neck, P1, K2, P1, K2, P1, K2. There are 94 total stitches. Next round P1, K2, P1, K2, P1, K27, P1, K2, P1, K2, P1, K2, P1, K2, P1, K2, P1, K35, P1, K2, P1, K2, P1, K2. Repeat this round until neck is approximately 5” high. Next 2 rounds knit all stitches. To make holes for drawstring K64, k2tog, YO, K3, YO, ssk, K23. Knit next 2 rounds. Purl 1 round. K 5 rounds. Fold neck edge inside along purl row and sew down live stitches. For the drawstring cast on 3 stitches with smaller knitting needles and knit an i-cord, approximately 37” long. Thread the i-cord through the YO holes into the neck and make a knot at each end.

Finish
Graft underarm stitches using Kitchener stitch. Weave in yarn ends.
